A few days ago Foolsville 2.0 made a post about Immodium’s Bathroom Finder. Naturally, being a mature and responsible adult, I had to check it out.
This is one of the cleverest pieces of online marketing I’ve seen in a long time. If you own a business such as a restaurant, coffee shop, or gas station and you provide public restrooms, you can submit your business to the Bathroom Finder. Think beyond the bathroom and enter your zip code- did you know that many places were around you? And trust me- you’ll never forget it!
It made me start thinking how we can apply the same principle to our clients. What is fun, quirky, memorable, and a good traffic driver? This is one of the things we get to really have fun with- think outside the box and make the web our playground!
Anyone in the Triangle area with an affinity for classic movies (a-Monty Python and the Holy Grail-hem) should keep an eye on the Colony Theater’s schedule. The Colony is a small venue on Six Forks Road. When I say small I mean there’s no stadium seating, no credit card machines, and a movie, popcorn, and beer comes to less than $20.00. The Colony features films from all eras appealing to all audiences, and it’s a great way to find some pictures I never thought I’d get to see on a big screen.

I’m a relatively unknown person in the blogosphere, so I have not yet had the dubious (mis)fortune of being called out by a blog basher. I know it’s going to happen eventually. Somewhere down the line someone’s going to question what I have to say either because he or she sincerely disagrees with me or wants to take potshots at me in an attempt to boost his or her credibility. Someone’s going to call my validity and expertise into question. Personally I don’t think my feelings are going to get hurt so much as I’m going to be flattered by the attention, but not everyone is prepared to respond that way. I’ve read countless blogs by a great many authors whom I think very highly of, and I have definitely seen my fair share of spiteful comments and venomous posts. I also have seen thoughtful counterpoints and polite disagreements. And then I’ve seen people completely lose their patience and call out the original poster as spouting complete and total drivel. Writer’s block is a curse to anyone trying to build a reputation or livelihood on writing. I recently struggled through a nasty bit of it about a week ago, and when I woke up full of inspiration on Sunday I spent the entire day (and Monday) writing. Fortunately, in addition to various resources on the web, I have some pointers from the past I took advantage of to at least keep myself going until the flow came back. Continue Reading »

I am not a strong marketer. I love being behind the scenes, plugging away at my blog, and slowly building a reputation. I clam up when people ask me a question and hyperventilate during lively discussions (heaven forbid I ever get put on a panel!). This is why social networking sites like Twitter can be great. About a month ago my company began moving into a new office. Notice I say “began”. It’s been over a month, and we’re still not finished. What started out as a simple relocation turned into a mammoth undertaking. Two things come to mind about this move: when it rains it pours, and this was a comedy of errors. We were hit with a lot of setbacks, trials, and tribulations that were definitely a learning experience, but the most important thing we learned was how to pull together as a small company and keep the job going.
